Why go backpacking in Thailand you ask? There are literally a thousand reasons why you should, but I’m just going to list the main ones that should be enough to convince you. So here it is: 11 Reasons why you should Backpack Thailand!

1) They have some of the most stunning beaches in the world

If you thought the Caribbean or the south of France was amazing, wait until you see the beaches in Thailand. They are unbelievable. Breathtaking really. Check out our recommendations for the Top 3 Backpacker Islands in Thailand.

2) The food is unbelievably delicious and best of all, cheap!

Street Pad Thai

Did you know that you can get Pad Thai noodles with chicken for only about a $1.50? Yes that is why Thailand is so amazing. You can eat for next to nothing, especially if you choose street food over restaurants which a lot of the time is better anyway!

3) Everything is affordable! You can find hostels for $5 a night!

Cheap Hostel Thailand

Hostels really are the way to go when you are backpacking especially if you want to meet other travellers from around the world. While in Bangkok, hostels will be closer to $10/night, you can find them much cheaper in the North such as in Chiang Mai.

4) The weather is always hot and sunny!

Even though Thailand does have a rainy season, the rain never lasts that long anyways. You can have some incredible weather even in low season. If you come from a country that has cold winters like I do, then backpacking Thailand is the best way to beat the cold. Shorts and t-shirt weather all the time!

5) The Shopping is endless and cheap!

Chiang Mai Night Market

Thailand has a large amount of outdoor night markets that will satisfy your shopping needs. And best of all, everything is negotiable in Thailand. It is part of the culture to haggle the price. Try your best bargaining skills and you’ll walk away with some amazing deals.

6) You will make lots of new friends from all around the world!

When you stay in hostels, you meet people from all over the world. I’ve met people from England, Germany, Australia, Brazil, and the list goes on and on. And then there are the friendly locals. The thai people are very kind if you show respect for their culture.

7) To see some of the most amazing temples!

Thailand’s buddhist culture is prominent throughout the whole country with amazing temples and statues to be seen. Take it one step further and join in some meditation classes with a monk. It will be an experience like no other.

8) The Nature is seriously unbelievable!

9) To Party!

Thailand isn’t all culture and history, it also is one of the biggest party places in the world. Attend the Full Moon Party in Koh Pha-Ngan, or have a wild night on the Khao San Road, the party possibilities are endless! Best part is, no need to wear any fancy clothes. Just put on your tank top, shorts, flip flops and you are ready to go!

10) To learn about the Culture!

There is so much more to Thailand than beaches and partying. The food is a big part of the culture and you can do some amazing cooking classes to learn to make some pad thai yourself! Staying at a homestay is a cool way to learn more about the way of life of the Thais. If you want to immerse yourself and get respect from the locals, learn some basic greetings in Thai. A little goes a long way.

11) Because it will be one of the Best Experiences of your Life!

Everyone I’ve ever met in hostels have all said the same thing, that travelling is one of their biggest passions. And it makes sense because of how much you do in a short period of time. Thanks to the cost-effective nature in Thailand, you will do extraordinary things like go trekking, feed elephants and monkeys, see ladyboy cabarets, go motorbiking, etc. etc. The list really is endless and you get to share these experiences with awesome people from around the world. The hardest part of it all will be to say goodbye and come back to reality.
